CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Former Tom Sox pitcher Trey Yesavage continues to make history. The superstar rookie is slated to start game one of the World Series for the Blue Jays against the Dodgers, which will make him the first Tom Sox player to appear in the Fall Classic.

Yesavage spent the 2022 summer in Charlottesville, where he was a top option on the mound for the Valley League Champions. In his seven appearances, Yesavage posted a 1.73 ERA with 32 strikeouts across 26 innings, which earned him an All-Valley League selection.

Toronto’s No. 1 prospect made his professional debut on April 8 with Class-A Dunedin, and pitched at every level in the Blue Jays system throughout the season. On September 15, Yesavage made his major league debut against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he struck out nine batters across five one-run innings.

The 22-year-old right hander made three starts in the regular season, and has made three starts during the postseason. In game two of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, he threw 5.1 scoreless innings where he didn’t allow a hit. With Toronto’s season on the line in game six of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners, he earned the win by only allowing two runs in 5.2 innings.

Yesavage will be the first rookie to start game one of the World Series since 2006, as the Blue Jays play their first World Series game since 1993.
